HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The Alabama A&M University women's basketball program has put the finishing touches on the 2024-25 schedule, head coach Dawn Thornton announced Wednesday. The schedule features two SEC match ups and a trip to San Diego to play in the San Diego Thanksgiving Classic.
"We are extremely excited about kicking off the 2024-25 women's basketball season", head coach Dawn Thornton said. "We have a very competitive schedule that will showcase our talent on a national platform. We have competitive matches across the state, on the west coast, and down south" she said.
"Our athletes are excited about playing in the Event Center in front of a packed home crowd, and we are looking forward to that same support on the road," Thornton said. " We want to make sure that everyone attached to the Bulldog Nation- students, staff, and the community- are in the seats supporting the product that our girls have worked so hard to put forth," she said.
The Bulldogs will take a short break before continuing their eight-game road stretch at Lindenwood on Dec.7 and North Alabama on Dec.17. The team will travel to New Orleans for the Tulane Holiday Tournament on Dec. 20 and 21, then to Nashville on Dec. 29 to take on SEC opponent Vanderbilt, concluding their non-conference schedule.
AAMU opens SWAC play with a pair of home games against Mississippi Valley State on Jan.2, and Arkansas Pine-Bluff on Jan. 4. The program's first conference road test will come from a Mississippi swing, with the Bulldogs playing at Jackson State on Jan. 9 and at Alcorn State on Jan.11. Alabama A&M returns to the Event Center on Jan. 18 to host rival Alabama State before playing Prairie View A&M on Jan. 23 and Texas Southern on Jan. 25, to end its longest home stretch of the season.
The Bulldogs will trek to Florida on Jan. 30 and Feb. 1 to take on Bethune-Cookman and Florida A&M. Grambling State and Southern University will travel to Huntsville as AAMU hosts competition on Feb. 6 and Feb. 8. Alabama A&M will play two more road contests against Arkansas Pine-Bluff and Mississippi Valley State before returning to the Event Center for the final time of the season to play Florida A&M on Feb.20 and Bethune-Cookman on Feb. 22.
The Bulldogs will conclude their regular season with three road matches, beginning in Montgomery at Alabama State on Mar. 1, followed by Grambling State on Mar. 6 and ending in Baton Rouge at Southern University on Mar. 8. The 2025 SWAC Women's Basketball Tournament is scheduled to be held March 11-15 at the Gateway Center Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.
