MONTGOMERY, Ala. — The president of Alabama State University is pledging disciplinary action after players on the Hornets football team threw punches during a post-game melee with players from Jackson State.

The incident followed a tense 16-10 victory by Jackson State on Saturday. Both teams engaged in physical altercations shortly after the final whistle.

Several players were seen throwing punches in the incident, which was captured on by television cameras, marring what had been a closely contested game between the two programs.

Alabama State University President Quinton T. Ross addressed the incident, expressing strong disapproval of his players' conduct.

The university has launched an internal investigation into the incident, with Ross confirming that appropriate disciplinary action will be taken following their review.
