HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Ranging from the NFL to NASCAR and including three iconic basketball stars from Butler High School, the Huntsville-Madison County Athletic Hall of Fame today announces 12 members of the Class of 2025.
The new Hall of Famers will be enshrined at a banquet presented by Huntsville Hospital Sports and The Orthopaedic Center on Monday, April 14 at the Von Braun Center. Information on tickets and advertising opportunities may be found at www.hmcahof.com.
Along with the new inductees, the Hall will also honor the Huntsville Havoc with a Special Achievement Award, recognizing the hockey franchise’s long record of success and as a generous contributor to the community.
Butler High’s basketball legacy is represented by the selection of legendary former players Courtney Beasley, Bobby Lee Hurt and Tasheika Morris; the latter was part of the Butler girls program honored two years ago with a Special Achievement Award. Beasley, an All-State guard at Butler, was a four-year starter at Southern Miss, played professionally overseas and is now a member of the cast of “Love and Marriage in Huntsville,” on the OWN network.
Hurt was one of the most highly recruited players in Huntsville history, signing with Alabama, where he was a three-year starter. Morris, a Miss Basketball for the state of Alabama and four-time All-State selection, played collegiately
The class includes two former NFL players, Israel Raybon and Dwight Scales. Raybon was a four-year letterman at the University of North Alabama who played for the Steelers and Panthers, and is a member of the UNA Hall of Fame. Scales, a Lee High and Grambling State grad, was a wide receiver for eight seasons in the NFL and is in Grambling’s Hall of Fame.
Other inductees are:
Brian Campe, a Bob Jones graduate, the technical director at Legacy Motorsports, owned by NASCAR legends Richard Petty and Jimmie Johnson, and winner of an Indianapolis 500 and Indycar championship as race engineer at Penske Racing
The late Cecil Hurt, another Butler grad and one of the state’s most decorated sportswriters during his nearly four decades at the Tuscaloosa News.
Carlos Matthews, a Huntsville High and Alabama A&M graduate who currently serves on the Huntsville School Board and continues to compete in masters track meets, having won 10 gold medals in the Alabama State Games as an encore to his All-Conference career at A&M.
Jeff McCorvey, a bowling champion and entrepreneur who has coached the Alabama A&M bowling program for 16 years, winning two league titles and finishing second in the NCAA tournament.
Dale Palmer, with more than a thousand wins and six state titles as softball coach at Sparkman High.
Tom Pruett, a soccer player for Huntsville High and Alabama A&M who served for more than 20 years as a coach with the Huntsville High program.
Jayson Swain, an All-America receiver at Grissom High who played at the University of Tennessee and was the Vols’ captain as a senior.
