BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Southwestern Athletic Conference has named Alabama A&M’s Quincy Casey and Zareon Hayes along with Prairie View A&M’s Guillermo Rodriguez and Jackson State’s Irv Mulligan its SWAC Football Players of the Week for their impressive performances during games played this past weekend.
Offense
Casey Completed 81% of his passes and threw for 328 yards to go along with three touchdowns in front of a national television audience on Thursday Night. His efforts helped lead the Bulldogs to a 31-24 win over Arkansas Pine-Bluff.
Defense
Hayes finished with a team-high 12 tackles and a game-high 2.5 sacks, four tackles for a loss (-22 yards), one quarterback hurry, and a forced fumble. The forced fumble transpired on the last play of the game to help seal the 31-24 victory for Alabama A&M over Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
Specialist
In his season debut, Rodriguez was called upon to convert a field goal attempt from 46 yards out to win the game. He connected for the game-winning field goal to help PVAMU claim a 23-20 victory over Alcorn State.
Newcomer
Mulligan rushed 21 times for 174 yards and one touchdown on Saturday during JSU’s home opener versus Bethune-Cookman. His 66-yard run in the fourth quarter proved to be the difference in the Tiger’s 22-16 win over the Wildcats.
