Jaxton Carson scored two touchdowns and Joe Gurley added a 46-yard field goal as the White posted a 17-10 win over the Purple in the University of North Alabama’s 2020 Spring Football Game at Braly Stadium.
A 62-yard pass from Blake Dever to Jakobi Byrd set up a one-yard TD run for Carson on the White team’s first possession. Dever then led another drive that ended in Gurley’s field goal as White held a 10-0 lead at the half.
Hayden Bryant sparker the Purple team in the second half, leading a 79-yard TD drive that he finished with a 48-yard TD pass to Dexter Boykin to make it 10-7.
With 7:19 left in the game, San Contorno kicked a 20-yard field goal that tied the game at 10-10.
Jbril Glaze then forced a White turnover but Bryant was intercepted in the end zone by Gerrell Green.
Following the turnover, the White team drove 80-yards for the go-ahead score as Carson went into the end zone from nine yards out with 1:07 left.
Kyree Fields sealed the win for the White with an interception in the final minute.
“There were a couple of big plays early but both defenses then settled in and we were grinding it out for most of the rest of the game,” UNA head coach Chris Willis said. “It’s always tough on the offense when you split your best players up. But we had fun, we put on a good show and no one got banged up so that’s what we were hoping for.”
