HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Donovan Eaglin's outstanding performance Saturday against Bethune-Cookman earned him HBCU Offensive Player of the Week honors from the SWAC, BoxToRow and the Celebration Bowl.
The Michigan State transfer announced his presence with 200-plus yards from scrimmage and three scores as Alabama A&M downed Bethune-Cookman 35-27 on Homecoming on Saturday, October 1.
In his first start for the Bulldogs, Eaglin stole the show with 190 yards on the ground with two rushing TDs and two receptions for 12 yards, one for a third score. He helped stake A&M to a 14-0 lead with a seven-yard TD in the first quarter and a six-yard plunge in the second while pounding out long runs on a regular basis.
He would pick up that third score in a key situation when he handled a three-yard shovel pass in traffic with 8:20 to play that helped put the game away, extending the lead to 35-20.
The honors are the first of his career as a Bulldog, which spans all of five games, and make him the first A&M player to notch the sweep since A&M great Aqeel Glass (St. Louis, Mo.) did so on September 6 and 7 last season.
Eaglin and the Bulldogs will get to show a broad HBCU Go audience what they are capable of when they host Grambling on Saturday, October 8. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Louis Crews Stadium.
