JACKSONVILLE, Ala. — On Friday, the Hartselle Tigers defeated Pelham Panthers 10-2 to complete the sweep of the 2022 AHSAA Class 6A Championship Series. The Tigers scored seven runs in the fifth inning to run away with the win.
Hartselle Head Baseball Coach William Booth says that his team has been looking forward to this moment for a year.
"They decided last year that they wanted one," said Booth. "And they started working last August. It's been a morning, afternoon or day. You can ask all of them about what it took to prepare for this. They prepared the way they were supposed to. If they hadn't prepared then we would been back at Hartselle by now."
The victory is win number 1,142 for Hartselle with Booth in the dugout. The Tigers' Will Turner earned the Class 6A State Baseball Championship Series MVP award. Turner struck out nine batters in Game 1 and was the winning pitcher in a 5-1 win.
