HAZEL GREEN, Ala. — It's going to take a little more than a nationally ranked team to re-route the Hazel Green girls basketball team's championship pursuit. The peaks and valleys on the journey are nothing new for this 4-time state title team instead it's fuel for the engine on their drive to 5.
"It's been a journey you know we've had our humble moments as for not playing real well we had some good moments when we've played really well we're just trying to be as consistent as we could be every day," says Head Coach Tim Miller.
The Lady Trojans are one of the most consistent teams, currently on a 49-game win streak dating back to December 2020. Being the top-ranked team in Class 6A, and the only one to record 4-straight State titles is a flashy stat but not easy to obtain.
"I think people are expecting us to win when really it's all the work we put in and I really wish people would appreciate that more and see that we put a whole lot of work to get where we are we don't just get it."
Senior, Samiya Steele has lost just two games since joining varsity and credit goes to coach Tim miller who has led the trojans to Final Four appearances in all but his first season back in 2013. And with a total of 8 high school Championships under his belt, he says the recipe to success is hard work.
"These girls understand the time they put in they understand that if they really want it how bad they have to go put the effort and the time the work the discipline into that of being the best they can be"
Tuesday night the Lady Trojans hit the road for a rivalry matchup against Buckhorn. Tip-off is at 6:00 P.M.
