HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The Alabama A&M Bulldogs football team is gearing up for game week, and this Saturday. Under the leadership of Connell Maynor, the Bulldogs will travel to Auburn to take on the Auburn Tigers.
This marks the second consecutive year that Alabama A&M is kicking off against an SEC opponent.
Coach Maynor recognizes the significance of this game and his team is excited about the opportunity. “It’s going to be great, it’s unbelievable. It’s a great opportunity. All these guys want to play SEC football or Power Five football. And they say they can play. They feel they can play. Okay, now you got job opportunity. So it’s a great opportunity for these guys to really see where they fit in and how they fit and they can play at that level or not,” Maynor said.
During a press conference, Maynor announced that Cornelius Brown IV will start as quarterback for Alabama A&M this Saturday. Brown saw action early last season before missing the remainder of 2023 due to personal reasons.
While Brown will be the starter, Maynor did not rule out the possibility of playing other quarterbacks. “Quad will run out there first and we always say we’re going to play the best man when the best man is the best man. It was game one, game two, game six, game ten. And once you become the best man you can play so it isn’t over any position. We just have starters for this game. They could be beat out in eight games. They don’t play with other people. Keep improving,” Maynor said.
The Bulldogs get the 2024 season started against the Tigers at Jordan-Hare Stadium on Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
