GADSDEN, Ala. — Three Alabama high schools were assessed penalties this week by the Alabama High School Athletic Association for violations of football competition rules.
Coosa Christian in Gadsden was officially penalized for violating the "Coaching Outside School Year Rule." According to an AHSAA notice on Tuesday, the school played an ineligible player in this season's game against Cleveland.
However, per a report from AL.com, the school was ordered to forfeit an additional four games (against Falkville, Susan More, Cold Springs, and Southeastern) following additional AHSAA investigations.
The school has reportedly been placed on "restrictive probation" through 2025; the school will not be allowed to enter championship play unless certain criteria are met.
The scores from all the affected matches have been struck from official scorekeeping.
It is the second consecutive year in which Coosa Christian has been penalized for playing an ineligible player, having to forfeit four games last season after a violation of the "Transfer Rule."
One day later, AHSAA announced Fultondale High School would forfeit three games for playing ineligible players in violation of the "Transfer Rule." The players were assessed restitution for the contests they participated in.
Then, on Friday evening, the AHSAA announced Charles Henderson High School in Troy was penalized for playing an ineligible player under the "Transfer Rule." Five of that program's wins were then negated as a penalty. The ineligible player was assessed eight games of restitution plus a preseason contest.
Henderson will be placed on probation for a period of one year.
This week's swath of announcements come one week after another school, Pike Arts Liberal School, was fined and made to forfeit six games for violating the Transfer Rule by playing an ineligible player.
