HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Alabama A&M University senior quarterback Xavier Lankford was selected the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Co-Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday afternoon.
Lankford, making just his second start of the season at quarterback, carried the Bulldogs to their first conference win in a 56-12 rout of Bethune-Cookman during AAMU's Homecoming at Louis Crews Stadium. The Pelham, Ala. native finished with 388 total yards, including 315 through the air. He went 15 of 24 passing, with one touchdown and one interception. On the ground, Lankford amassed 73 yards on 15 carries, scoring three times.
Alabama State's Kareem Keyes was tabbed the league's co-offensive player of the week, while Stemarion Edwards, of Alcorn State, received defensive player of the week honors. Prairie View A&M's Guillermo Garcia-Rodriguez and Arkansas-Pine Bluff's JaVonnie Gibson earned specialist and newcomer of the week honors, respectively.
Alabama A&M is off this week and returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 26 in the 82nd Magic City Classic against rival Alabama State. Kickoff at Legion Field in Birmingham, Ala. is set for 2:30 p.m.
