FLORENCE, Ala. — Eleven seasons at the University of North Alabama has come to an end. The university's head of athletics announced Monday that women's basketball coach Missy Tiber will not be offered a contract renewal.
“Coach Tiber has left a positive impact on many associated with UNA Women’s Basketball, on and off the court,” said Dr. Josh Looney in a written statement. “We want to thank Coach Tiber and her staff for the hard work and commitment they have poured into our program, and for the memorable moments they’ve added to our proud history."
Dr. Looney said that "new energy and a change in approach is necessary to push our program trajectory higher."
Tiber has a 172-147 record with North Alabama, which includes the changeover from Division II to Division I. This is Tiber's 24th year leading college ball, with a resume including West Liberty State, Belmont Abbey, and Tusculum.
“I’m thankful for my time here at UNA and for those who believed in us,” said Tiber. “It’s been an honor to coach and mentor so many wonderful young ladies. I am thankful for the Shoals community and the many people who I have built lifelong relationships with. UNA will always have a special place in the hearts of Zeke, Lola and I.”
Dr. Looney says a search has already begun for Tiber's replacement. Assistant Coach Josh Ashley will head up the women's team in the interim.
