BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT)–It looks like professional basketball will be coming to Birmingham.
Multiple reports have stated that the New Orleans Pelicans will begin a G-League affiliate in the Magic City.
The team is set to make an announcement Wednesday afternoon in downtown Birmingham, according to the reports. The developmental league team is set to start in the 2019-20 season.
According to the reports, the team will play at Legacy Arena, but renovations to the BJCC won’t be done by next year. As a result, the Pelicans will play their G-League games in Erie, Pennsylvania until renovations are done.
