Samford Bulldogs head to NCAA Tournament showdown

Samford University, located in Birmingham, Alabama, prepare to play Kansas on Thursday.

HOMEWOOD, Ala. — Samford University, located in Birmingham, Alabama, has been buzzing with excitement as the basketball team prepares for their historic NCAA Tournament appearance. The Samford men's basketball team will be making the trip to Salt Lake City, Utah, where they'll face off against Kansas in the NCAA Tournament on Thursday. The big news came during the official NCAA Tournament Selection Show on Sunday night.

"Obviously, I'm very excited for our program to be on the national scene," Samford head coach Bucky McMillan said. "Those that have been following our program know this is a special team. It's a special group of guys, the way they represent our university goes hand in hand with our university, how hard they work, how unselfish they are and the confidence in how they approach their business on a day-to-day basis."

This marks Samford's third appearance in the NCAA Tournament, following their previous runs in 1999 and 2000. It's also their first-ever encounter with Kansas in men's basketball. Samford continues making history with a 29-5 overall record and 15-3 in Southern Conference play. They clinched the SoCon regular-season championship for the first time since joining the league in 2008. Their ticket to the NCAA Tournament was secured with a 76-69 win over ETSU in the SoCon Tournament championship game.
