HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — UAH men's basketball head coach John Shulman has stepped down as the leader of the Chargers to accept the same position at Division I member Central Arkansas.

"I feel very fortunate to have had Coach Shulman as our men's basketball head coach these past five years," UAH Director of Athletics Dr. Cade Smith said. "The success he has had both on the court and in our community speaks volumes to his character. We are forever grateful for the impact he has made at UAH and we wish him nothing but the best at UCA."

In his five seasons at the helm of the UAH program, Shulman boasts a career record of 112-39 and has led the Blue & White to five consecutive NCAA tournament berths. Overall, Shulman has a career coaching record of 257-185 between his time at UAH and at Chattanooga from 2004-13.

The Chargers made it to the Gulf South Conference tournament semifinals in all five seasons with Shulman as the leader of the program, culminating in GSC tournament championships in 2020 and 2022. Moreover, UAH has made it to at least the second round of the NCAA tournament from 2021-23 that includes an NCAA South Region Championship game appearance in 2023.

He has also guided two GSC Players of the Year, three All-South District performers, and eight All-GSC selections. Additionally, under his mentorship, Sam Orf became the program's ninth All-American and the first-ever CoSIDA Academic All-American.

Shulman's squads also performed well in the classroom with six GSC All-Academic honorees and 40 GSC Honor Roll recipients.

He has accrued winning percentages of .676 or higher in each of his five seasons at UAH with 20-plus victories in four out of his five seasons. This season, UAH went 21-11 overall and 17-7 in GSC play, which was good for second in the league standings.

The Chargers wrapped up the 2023-24 campaign in the NCAA tournament round of 64 at the 2024 NCAA Division II South Region Championships in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on Saturday.

According to UAH, a nationwide search for the next leader of the UAH men's basketball program will begin immediately.
