Longtime UAH women's basketball coach steps down

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — UAH women's basketball head coach Andrea Lemmond announced her resignation on Friday after 10 seasons leading the program.
 
"We are grateful for Coach Lemmond's contributions to UAH Women's Basketball and to our athletic department," UAH Director of Athletics Dr. Cade Smith said. "The assistant coaches and student athletes that she brought to UAH represented our institution in a first-class manner and that is a reflection of who she is as a person and a coach. She just recently spearheaded a fundraising effort to renovate the locker room, which is something that took a lot of work. I am thankful for what she has done for our program in her time at UAH. I wish nothing but the best for her, her husband, Graham, and their boys, Jax and Riggs."
 
Lemmond, who joined the Chargers prior to the 2014-15 campaign, is the first-ever UAH women's basketball coach to reach the 100-win milestone. In her time at UAH, Lemmond has coached five All-GSC honorees, one Academic All-American, four Academic All-District honorees and over 100 GSC Honor Roll recipients.
 
Lemmond additionally mentored four players to over 1,000 points in their careers, while guiding UAH to five postseason appearances, including an NCAA South Regional berth in 2019-20.
 
Lemmond was hired in 2014 as the 12th head coach in program history, after a six-season stint at Samford as an assistant coach where she was also a student-athlete graduating in 2006.
 
UAH has announced that a nationwide search for the new leader of the UAH women's basketball program will start immediately.
