The 55th Alabama Girls State Junior Championship concluded today at Montgomery Country Club with defending champion Michaela Morard of Huntsville coming from two shots back to win the Alabama Girls State Junior Championship for the third time.
Morard fired a two over par 72 in her final round for a total of 214 (+4). Morard made five birdies over the 54-holes. This win is her second championship title in as many weeks.
Seven shots back in a tie for second place were Athens’ Ally Williams and first and second round leader Caroline Waldrop of Birmingham. Williams carded a two-over par 72 in the final round while Waldrop posted an eleven-over par 81. In a scorecard playoff, Williams won the silver medal.
Lauren Thompson of Midland City won the 14/15 age division following an impressive even par 70 in the final round. Her round included three birdies.
The 12-13 age division was won by Montgomery’s Virginia Anne Holmes who finished the tournament with a +28 (238) total. She posted a third round 74 (+4).
