MADISON, Ala. — The Rocket City Trash Pandas just announced their coaching team for the upcoming 2024 season at Toyota Field. Here's who will be leading the Trash Pandas:
- Manager: Andy Schatzley (3rd season in Rocket City)
- Coach: Dann Bilardello (3rd season)
- Pitching Coach: Michael Wuertz (4th season)
- Assistant Pitching Coach: Doug Henry (1st season)
- Hitting Coach: Joel Chimelis (1st season)
- Athletic Trainer: Dylan Culwell (1st season)
- Strength & Conditioning Coach: David Robertson (2nd season)
Andy Schatzley is back for his third season leading the Trash Pandas. Under his guidance, 15 players have made their Major League debuts. Schatzley previously led the team to the top of the Southern League standings in 2022, earning himself the 2022 Southern League Manager of the Year award.
Dann Bilardello used to be a catcher in MLB and an Minor League manager. Bilardello is returning for his third season with the organization. Michael Wuertz, the Pitching Coach, is entering his fourth season with the Trash Pandas. Wuertz has seen 10 former Trash Pandas pitchers make their MLB debuts in the past two seasons.
Joel Chimelis, with experience coaching in the Triple-A league and a 15-year professional playing career, will step into the role of Hitting Coach, aiming to help the team's offensive performance. Complementing Chimelis is Doug Henry, a former MLB pitcher, who brings a wealth of knowledge from both his playing days and coaching will be the Assistant Pitching Coach.
David Robertson returns for his second season as the Strength & Conditioning Coach. His expertise in maintaining player fitness and conditioning will play a crucial role in the team's preparation and performance. The Trash Pandas have also secured the services of Dylan Culwell, recognized for his exceptional skills as an Athletic Trainer.
Completing the coaching roster are Game Planning Strategist Max Mayfair, Video Assistant Michael Portela, and Bubba Hearn, who earned accolades as the 2023 Southern League Clubhouse Manager of the Year.
