CHARLOTTE, N.C. — NASCAR Cup Series driver Bubba Wallace was fined $50,000 Wednesday for an incident after the checkered flag at Sunday's Chicago street race.
Wallace slammed the door of Alex Bowman's No. 48 car on the cool-down lap, sending Bowman into the wall. The confrontation stemmed from a Lap 25 incident where Bowman spun Wallace into the wall. Bowman went on to win the race while Wallace settled for a 13th-place finish.
Cup Series director Elton Sawyer said it was investigating the incident on Tuesday.
NASCAR opted not to dock any points from Wallace for the incident. He remains 17th in the standings, 45 points below the cutoff for the playoffs.
Wallace's run-in with Bowman wasn't the only post-race altercation. A video surfaced Sunday showing Chase Elliott running down Daniel Suarez and rubbing doors with him on the cool-down lap.
NASCAR hasn't announced any penalties for Elliott, who was suspended for a race last season after he intentionally crashed Denny Hamlin during the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
