DECATUR, Ala. — Sam Murphy leads the way at 6-under par after the third round of the 2021 Daikin Spirit of America Golf Tournament in Decatur. Murphy began the day tied with Bryan Askew at 5-under par. Matt Smith shot 7-under on Friday to pull within one stroke of Murphy.
"Peddle down. Don't play scared," said Murphy ahead of the action. "Keep playing patient golf. Don't make anything harder than it really is."
Askew dropped two strokes to tie Will Patrick for third entering Saturday.
"Keep it simple," said Askew before today's round. "Fairways and greens...one shot at a time. Be responsible for every shot. Don't watch what they're doing because they're going to be doing things that I can't do. Just play my game."
18-year-old Ryley Heath began the day at 4-under par to join the leaders in the final group on Friday. Heath dropped two strokes to pull into a 5-way tie entering Saturday's match.
"I think putting is definitely the most important because I'm hitting the ball well, so if I putt good, it should all come together," said Heath before taking the course.
