TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The Alabama Crimson Tide are gearing up for its 6th National Championship game appearance in 8 seasons. Alabama will take on Georgia in a rematch of the 2021 SEC Championship. This will be the Crimson Tide's second meeting with the Bulldogs in the National Championship. The last time was back in 2018 when Alabama walked away with the 26-23 overtime victory.
It's no secret that there's great history between these two programs and it all stems from the head coaches. On this day in 2007, Nick Saban left the Miami Dolphins to build a legacy with the Crimson Tide. Fast forward to today, he's preparing for what may be his 7th National title with Alabama.
"We've got a great sort of organization at the University of Alabama from the top down to our administration and how they support our athletics, and I think that's been a real key to the success here," said Saban when asked about his success with the program.
Monday's game is just as much a reunion as it is a rematch. Georgia Head Coach Kirby Smart was alongside Nick Saban for much of his journey. From LSU to Miami then to Alabama. Smart spent one season on the Dolphins staff before following Saban to Tuscaloosa. The two racked up many wins together, now Smart says his guys are looking forward to the rematch against the well-respected Tide.
"Our guys are excited...And got a lot of respect for Alabama and Coach Saban and everything they've been able to do. We know that we've got to play one of our best games and our guys are excited for the opportunity."
Kickoff for the National Championship is set for 7:00 P.M. Monday, January 10th at Lucas Oil Stadium.
