I don't think anyone expected what we saw in the Alabama vs Ole Miss game on Saturday. It was a shootout. Alabama's offense played lights out but it was the defense that really struggled; and that's an understatement.
After the game, Alabama head coach Nick Saban said it was almost like Ole MIss knew what plays they were calling. He clarified those comments in Monday's press conference.
“I think what I was really speaking to was we were more like, I felt like we were always one play behind,” Coach Saban said. “When I say one play behind, I mean, sometimes when you play in the NFL against Joe Montana or somebody really good, you always feel like you’re one play behind if you call this, they do the right thing against that. I think that was more sort of what I was referring to, as if they knew what we were going to do.”
The Tide's defense gave up 647 yards of offense against Ole Miss. To give you some perspective, they only gave up 322 against Missouri and 450 against Texas A&M.
Of course we have to get better; mainly working on tackling," said Tide sophomore linebacker Christian Harris. "But we're moving into a new week now so we'll just fix all of those things that we messed last game, prepare this week and fix them on Saturday."
This week it'll be a Top 5 matchup in Tuscaloosa as the No. 2 Crimson Tide takes on No. 3 Georgia. The last couple of times these two teams have met, it's come down to the last play.
"There are not a lot of weaknesses in this team," said Coach Saban. "It's going to be really challenging for us to execute the way we want to execute on all cylinders for us to be successful in this game."
Georgia has arguable the best defense in the nation. They are number one against the run -- allowing an average of only 38 yards per game.
But the SEC Offensive Player of the Week, Alabama running back Najee Harris, said their offense is ready for the task at hand.
"Well this offense is built to prepare, and to prepare for every game each game at a time. This offense is prepared to strike fear in opponents."
In order for Alabama to pull out the win against Georgia on Saturday, they're going to have to stop the run and maintain a balanced offense.
Kickoff at Bryant-Denny Stadium will be at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
