PARIS, France — The 2024 Paris Olympics are set to kick off on July 26 an The University of Alabama will have 16 Crimson Tide student-athletes, both current and former, continue the institution's storied legacy of excellence on the global stage. Alabama representatives will participate in five different sports, spanning 14 countries. Notably, two athletes, Daniel Haugh and Shelby McEwen, will compete for the United States in track and field. Among them is Alabama gymnastics assistant coach Justin Spring, who will take on a new role as an NBC commentator during the men's gymnastics competition.
The group includes three current students and showcases a diverse range of Olympic experience: five athletes are making their debuts, five are returning for their second Games, three have competed in three previous Olympics, and another trio boasts an impressive streak of four consecutive Olympic appearances.
Alabama's involvement in Paris marks its 14th consecutive Summer Games since debuting in 1972 at Munich. This also marks the university's third consecutive Olympiad with 15 or more Crimson Tide representatives and the fourth occurrence in the last six Games.
