ALABAMA, USA — There are thousands of Olympic athletes who have trained for years to be apart of the Paris 2024 Olympics. Some athletes on Team USA grew up right around the corner, with seven total having ties to Alabama.
Track & Field
JuVaughn Harrison is a Huntsville native competing in the high jump competition for Team USA. Track and field is in Harrison's blood as his mother, Georgia Harrison, ran track at Alabama A&M and was inducted into Alabama A&M's Athletics Hall of Fame in 2014.
Shelby McEwen attended the University of Alabama so he's no stranger to the Roll Tide! McEwen will also compete in the high jump competition for Team USA. The 28-year-old is a four time All-American.
Daniel Haugh is a former Tide thrower with champion titles in the hammer, discus, and weight throw. Haugh is also a 2019 NCAA Champion. He is not new to the Olympics either, Haugh competed in the hammer throw competition at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
Swimming
The Mobile, Alabama native Paige Madden is not new to the Olympics. Madden competed in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games and won a silver medal in the 4 x 200m Women's Freestyle Relay. Madden is a four-time NCAA champion and holds four Alabama high school all-time records.
Gymnastics
Suni Lee is an Olympic veteran and has the medals to prove it. The Auburn University student won and gold, silver and bronze medal in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. She has been apart of of Team USA since 2017 and continues to be a fan favorite. Lee holds multiple NCAA and All American titles.
Soccer
Tanner Tessman, a Birmingham native, is returning to the Olympics for the first since 2008. Tessman has experience with MLS with the Dallas FC team and currently plays for Venezia FC in Italy.
Shooting
This Troy University grad, Vincent Hancock, has shooting in his blood. His father, Craig Hancock, was a competitive shooter and inspired Vincent to also competitively compete. Hancock is no stranger to the Olympics and has the stack gold medals to prove it. Hancock won gold medals in Beijing (2008), London (2012), and Tokyo (2020).
