Pete Rose headlines the 2021 Lion Pride Dinner and Auction

Pro baseball great Pete Rose was the keynote speaker on Thursday for this year's Lion Pride Dinner and Auction.

FLORENCE, Ala — The stocks continue to go up for UNA athletics. Today Pete Rose, one of the most decorated players in Major League Baseball took center stage at the Lions Athletic Clubs 2021 Lions Pride Dinner.

Prior to the event The 17-time all star and 3-time World Series champ shared a few words of advice and encouragement to the soon to be Division 1 athletes.

"You don't start on top. Very few people start on top," says Pete Rose. "Everybody in this room, I'll probably tell these people this tonight. Everybody in this room has expertise. We all can do something that other people cant do and what got to do find that out as early as you can and work your butt off to try and be the best."

Big things are in store for this Athletic department and the proof was in the events turnout. Tickets for the Dinner & Auction we're sold out weeks prior displaying the growing support for UNA's rising athletic department.

"Its a great return after missing this event last year," says Dr. Josh Looney.  "The Lions Athletic Club and their leadership to do it up big and bring someone like Pete Rose. I think its a great thing and obviously its for a great cause to support out athletic program and our student athletes."

All proceeds raised from tonight's event will go directly into the athletic department. While we don't have those numbers just yet, judging by the 600 people in attendance, UNA athletics is on track for a bright journey ahead.
