ATHENS, Ala. — Families enjoyed great music, food, and entertainment (including a bouncy castle), all while watching their children play football at Athens High School Stadium with Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Quez Watkins. The former Athens High School Golden Eagle hosted the evet
"Honestly, this means everything to me," Watkins said. "Just being able to do this and have this type of impact on these kids, just to see these kids smile and have fun running around and stuff, that warms my heart, honestly. That's really what I do it for."
The youth football camp was available to children ages six to eighteen, free of charge. Of course, being around these young athletes allowed Watkins to reminisce about when he was their age.
"Yeah, I remember when I was five years old, I was just getting started. And seeing these kids running around, you know they don't know what they're doing, but they're just having fun and that's the beauty in it."
The bleachers were packed with onlookers while the field was filled with more than one hundred kids honing their football skills.
"Honestly, it really shocked me how many people came out. I'm really glad with how it turned out. I see all these kids screaming my name and standing up ready to ask me questions...it's a great feeling."
Watkins plans to continue this football camp for as long as he can.
"I'm excited to do this again next year. This is just the first annual thing. We're gonna be doing this yearly."
