Rain washes 7v7 football tournament in Killen

Brooks High School was scheduled to host their first 7v7 football tournament Friday morning.

KILLEN, Ala. — Twelve teams signed up for a football tournament that began at 8:00 this morning in Killen, Alabama at Brooks High School.

The first two rounds happened as scheduled, at 8:00 and 8:30. Then lightning and rain forced a pause in animation and all the teams scrambled to various locations on campus.

That stoppage went on for about two hours, during which many of the teams left.

Four teams stayed...Mars Hill, East Limestone, Madison Academy, and of course Brooks High School, all getting reps in before wrapping up around 1:00pm.

Yeah, the rain put a damper on the event...especially since it was the first time Brooks High School has hosted...but overall, head football coach Brad Black says he'd characterize this as a success.

“It played out pretty good,” Black said. “I think everybody was happy with the situation other than the fact that some of them didn't get the two games in. Most of those teams that just got one game in, they stayed. And they were able to get three or four in, whatever they needed to do. It's great to be around those other coaches and get to fellowship with them. It's great to have people on your campus. It's a great event. If it wouldn't have rained, I believe it would have been an even better event. We got what we needed out of it. I felt that everyone else who decided to stay did the same.”
