FLORENCE, Ala. — Ballfields in the Shoals will stay empty a little longer than everyone had hoped, including the parks and recreation directors in Florence, Muscle Shoals, Sheffield and Tuscumbia. After discussing the current Covid-19 situation and the governor's Safer At Home order, they arrived at the same decision.
“It is with heavy hearts, but great concern for our community's health and well-being, that we decided to cancel the 2020 Baseball, Softball, and Soccer seasons," said Tina Kitchens, Florence Parks & Recreation Director.
"There was extensive discussion between the parks and recreation directors and athletic staff. However, under the current pandemic, we felt it is in the best interest of our youth to cancel this season,” said Kitchens.
Tammy Holt, Assistant Director of Tuscumbia Parks and Recreation, added, “It was a tough decision but looking at all our options and what other leagues are doing, we feel this is in the best interest of the kids.”
If your child was registered to play this Spring, check with your city's department on its process for refunds. Florence Parks and Recreation officials are also offering to credit Spring payments and apply them to Fall sports.
