CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Auburn Tigers' defensive lineman Trill Carter was shot this week during an incident in Charlotte, North Carolina, according to multiple media reports.
First reported on Saturday by The Athletic, Carter is said to have suffered a bullet wound to the lower stomach around 11:45 p.m. at a condominium development parking lot in uptown Charlotte. As of Sunday there have been no confirmed arrests related to the incident.
The report said Carter was the only person injured and spent two and a half hours at a local hospital before being released. The injury did not require surgical intervention.
Auburn has told multiple media outlets the school is aware of the incident but had no further comment on the matter.
After spending time in Minnesota and Texas, Carter spent the 2024 season at Auburn and totaled four tackles in nine games. He will not return to the Tigers due to being out of college eligibility. He has spent six years playing college football.
Carter has previously told The Athletic that he plans to become a coach near his hometown of Cordele, Ga.
This is the second time this year an Auburn player has been wounded in a shooting out-of-state. Running back Brian Battie was seriously injured in a shooting that killed his brother in Florida in May.
Battie was released from the hospital three months later, and made an appearance at this year's Iron Bowl.
