Trash Pandas host kids camp

A summer camp for children ages 5-12 takes place all week at Toyota Field.

MADISON, Ala. — With the Trash Pandas away, the kids come to play. A summer camp for kids ages 5-12 is going on all week at Toyota Field.

“We actually started a summer camp program last year when parents had to go to work and didn't have anywhere to take the kids,” explained Gayle Milam, the director of stadium events. “So, it was such a success last year that we wanted to do it again this year. We had this open schedule where our team was on the road. So it's like let's bring the kids in and have a great time again.”

And there are a ton of different activities to keep the kids busy.

“We are doing wiffle ball, we are doing kickball and right now I'm making slime. And I've got it all over me,” said 12-year-old Jackson Robichaud.

“Today I've done slime, we've done kickball, we've played a lot of ball games and we've done treasure hunts,” said ten-year-old Riley Fahrnann.

Of course, an event like this is great for bringing the Trash Pandas and the community closer together.

“The more we bring kids out here, the more we want to bring families out here,” said TJ Kelly, an employee in the Trash Pandas’ promotions department and kids camp. “And it's families from all over. I know, just from working here, I've seen a family come for their very first game from Texas. It just shows how big of a support events like this can bring to a family and everybody else.”
