MADISON, Ala — Though no baseball is being played just yet the trash pandas are putting their new field to good use as they held an instructional baseball camp.
Charity Chambers had a recap of the event.
It was a hot one here today at Toyota field but that didn't stop campers from coming out getting a chance to learn from some former collegiate and pro baseball players.
"We decided to do a little instructional camp," says Nate Leaser. We have a lot of talent on our staff that have played college ball I've coached a college fall and we decided this would be kind of a cool thing to do for the community we have this big beautiful ballpark let's get some baseball out here."
Tuesday marked the second and final day of this two day instructional camp in which kids ages 7-14 got a chance to learn a little more about the game of baseball.
"It's really cool it's cool getting to play were the players will get to play and how will watch them," says former Toronto Blue Jays standout Chad Girodo. "It's not every day you get to be in a beautiful ballpark like this I'm glad that people are finally getting to use it it's an awesome place I love helping the kids I know they enjoy getting outside and getting back in the swing of things their selves everybody has been locked up and dying to get outside and play a little ball."
For former Hartselle high and Toronto blue jays pitcher Chad Girodo being back on a baseball field just feels right.
"I've been on a baseball diamond my whole life and I really enjoy getting back on it sharing some knowledge, said Girodo. "Not that I have all of the knowledge but I do have a little bit and I enjoy sharing it with young kids and helping them make dreams come true and hopefully getting to the next level."
Now tomorrow is gonna be a really exciting day because for the first time Baseball will be played here at Toyota field. a lot of fans excited to come see the rocket city baseball classic that'll do it for me here in Madison I'm Charity Chambers for WZDX Sports.
