HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — North Alabama freshman quarterback Noah Walters was named a finalist for the Jerry Rice Award, the honor given to the best freshman in the NCAA’s Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) level.
Walters was named as one of the 25 finalists for the award, which will be announced on Dec. 7 at the FCS National Awards banquet. Of the nominees, five are quarterbacks. Walters is the lone representative of the ASUN conference on the list, regardless of position.
The Lincoln, Neb. native started in 10 of UNA’s 11 games and threw for 2,149 yards on 151-for-285 (53%) passing with 19 touchdowns and rushed for another 212 yards and two scores. He finished with a 129.9 pass efficiency.
The Lions finished 1-10 overall and 0-5 in the ASUN. Their lone win of the year was against Division II Virginia-Wise in week two of the season.
