HUNTSVILLE, Ala — For you Space & Rocket fanatics, we have an update on the Artemis I Mission.
The Redstone Arsenal is behind the rocket that will launch this spacecraft to the moon, the Space Launch System. It is the most powerful rocket ever and stands taller than the statue of liberty.
“What I see taking shape, are the technology systems and infrastructures that we need to live and work on around the moon, and undertake incredible science and the capacity to learn from those objectives and build on that so we can have a blueprint to do it at Mars, and even beyond,” said U.S. Air Force, and Astronaut Colonel Pam Melroy.
For months now, NASA has run a series of tests before the big launch in February of next year.
The Artemis I mission flight is uncrewed.
“There’s still a number of activities for Artemis II, that will be first-time operations. It’ll be the first time we’ll fly crews inside the vehicle. So we’ll have crew-specific systems that aren’t there for Artemis I for environmental control, and life support system and the displays and all the software that goes to support as backbones of the vehicle,” added Jim Free, NASA Associate Administrator for Exploration Mission Systems Directorate.
NASA says with these Artemis missions, NASA will land the first woman and first person of color on the Moon.
"We’re gradually building up our capabilities and demonstrating the systems we need to use and work at the Moon and prepare for Mars,” added Jim.
