How to stay healthy while travelling at an airport

“We are focused on the health and safety of our workforce and the traveling public,” said TSA Federal Security Director for the State of Alabama Gail Linkins.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The Transportation Security Administration has provided several tips on how to stay safe and healthy while traveling at airports during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We are focused on the health and safety of our workforce and the traveling public,” said TSA Federal Security Director for the State of Alabama Gail Linkins.

Linkins emphasized that the TSA has installed acrylic barriers separating passengers and TSA officers at strategic locations in checkpoints across Alabama.

Tip 1: Wear a face mask

The CDC Emergency Order mandates face masks must be worn on all public conveyances and at stations, ports or similar transportation hubs, including airports, regardless of state and local law, according to the TSA.

Tip 2: Leave prohibited items at home

To reduce physical contact with TSA officers, make sure all your items are allowed on planes.

Tip 3: Be ready at security checkpoints

The TSA advises to have a valid ID readily available when approaching security checkpoints.

Tip 4: No guns at checkpoints

According to the TSA, passengers can only bring firearms in checked bags. Additionally, all firearms must be properly packed and you must declare them at check-in.

Tip 5: Know where to get help

You can receive live assistance by Tweeting questions and comments to @AskTSA or by sending a Facebook message to the Ask TSA Facebook page.

Tip 6: Enroll in TSA PreCheck

By enrolling in TSA PreCheck, you can avoid removing shoes, belts, liquids, food, laptops and light jackets.
