HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — A chilly afternoon across the Tennessee Valley despite the fact that we actually did see some sunshine this afternoon. Temperatures only climbed into the low 40s across North Alabama. Despite being just over a week from Christmas, Our average high temperature is right around 52 or 53 degrees.
Expect a freezing cold night across the Tennessee Valley as some of the clouds this afternoon break tonight. Temperatures will easily fall into the low and mid-20s across the Tennessee Valley. An average low temperature is 33 or 34 degrees. We'll actually be above those numbers in the coming days.
Friday will see some slightly warmer air as our forecast is still controlled by an area of high pressure. Expect temperatures to climb into at least the mid and upper 40s.
Don't forget that this weekend is the last weekend to get your shopping done before Christmas. The first half of the weekend looks nearly perfect. There is a system back off to our west that by Saturday evening will attempt to bring some rain to the Tennessee Valley.
Much of the heavier rain will remain to our south, but some scattered showers will be possible Saturday evening and then through the day Sunday.
Monday and Tuesday look quiet across the Tennessee Valley with some warmer air. By the time we approach Christmas eve and Christmas Day, we could be looking at some insanely cold air moving into the Tennessee Valley.
This would come as an upper-level system drops south from Canada and the upper Midwest. Forecast lows on Christmas Day are somewhere in the teens and low 20s. Forecast highs have issues getting above 35 degrees. Of course this is still over a week away, but it is worth watching.
