North Alabama storm damage, outages

High winds caused damage in some parts of the Tennessee Valley.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — High winds are causing damage and power outages across portions of North Alabama.

Emergency services ask you to stay inside and stay away from windows. Also, if you see a power line down, assume it is live and don't touch it.

National Weather Service reports over 20 different incidents of trees and power lines down.

Cherokee County:

  • Trees/power lines down, 6220 North Pike, Cherokee

Colbert County:

  • Trees/powerlines down. Colbert Ferry Boat Ramp

Cullman County

  • Roof blown off building near Smith Lake
  • Trees down throughout county

Lauderdale County:

  • Roof blown off a church
  • Damage to a home
  • Numerous trees down in the Central Heights community

Limestone County:

  • Athens - Utility poles down on Miller Street
  • Athens - Roof damage to commercial building, Hwy 31 just north of Walmart
  • Limestone County - Report of tree down on Fedex truck on Huntsville Brownsferry Rd. near Mooresville Rd. No injuries
  • Trees down on Copeland Rd. and Jordan Lane
  • Tree/pole/lines down in Swan Creek Mobile Home Park

Madison County:

  • Traffic issues west of Wynn Drive Northwest in Huntsville
  • Large power outage in Madison
  • Be prepared for road closures and detours as high winds continue
  • Roof damage near MidCity at MJ’s Thrift & Antiques
  • More clusters of power outages have been reported in western Madison County, Hazel Green, and south and central Huntsville.
  • There is also a report of a utility pole down at Bo Howard Road and Britney Drive.
  • Service from Pine Grove Road south to Highway 72 and from Old Railroad Bed Road east to Jeff Road is close to being fully restored.

  • Use caution if you must travel. Several reports of trees across residential roads and the threat of low hanging power lines is high. Drive safely. Stay alert.  Stop and turn around if conditions do not seem safe. Report any travel issues/obstructions to 256-722-7190.

According to Don Webster with HEMSI, two people have been taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries on Wednesday.

One person in Five Points was injured when they were struck in the head by a falling limb. The other person was injured after debris, probably from a building, hit them in the head at Hays Nature Preserve.
