Tuesday's Tornado in Monrovia

A weak, EF-0 touched down yesterday in the Monrovia community during yesterday's storms.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The National Weather Service in Huntsville has concluded that a weak, EF-0 tornado briefly touched down in the Monrovia community, in Madison county.

The tornado touched the ground at approximately 5:14 PM Tuesday and lasted for a quick 4 minutes, lifting at 5:18 PM. The weak, brief tornado reached maximum sustained wind speeds of 80 MPH and had a maximum width of 103 yards (309 feet) and had path length of around 2 miles.

The tornado touched the ground around the Jeff Road and Kelly Springs intersection and moved southeastward lifting around Indian Creek Road/Blake Bottom Road. The National Weather Service in Huntsville wants to stress the importance of sheltering in place even during severe thunderstorm warnings as things can happen just like they did yesterday in Monrovia.
