HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — This week we honor our brave men and women who protect and serve our communities even during the pandemic.
Folks across the country our honoring our fallen heroes during 'National Police Week'.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Huntsville Police Department honored STAC Agent, Billy Fred Clardy III with a brick laying ceremony. He served for the Huntsville Police Department for 14 years. Clardy was killed last December during a drug investigation.
According to the National Fraternal Order of Police, more than 100 officers have died because of the virus nationwide.
U.S. Attorney Jay Town says it's ultimately their bravery that we honor.
"Their service is endowed by sacrifice, selflessness, and courage. And that's what we celebrate during Police Week and that's what we celebrate on National Law Enforcement Memorial Day, which is May 15th, Friday."
Starting tomorrow there will be a virtual candlelight vigil.
