12th annual Community Kite Festival | Things to do in Huntsville

The family-friendly event happens on March 2, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at John Hunt Park.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Join the City of Huntsville and the AshaKiran Foundation for a soaring day of fun at the 12th annual Community Kite Festival! The family-friendly event is set to happen on Saturday, March 2, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at John Hunt Park, located at 2151 Airport Road in Huntsville.

Beyond kite-flying, the community can enjoy delights from food trucks, children's activities, and much more at this free festival, dedicated to embracing inclusivity, diversity, equity, and harmony. People can bring their own kite or snag one at the event. The City of Huntsville recommends bringing along blankets or chairs to enjoy the festivities.

“This event promises joy for all ages,” remarks Kenny Anderson, the director of the City’s Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion. “It's a chance to revel in the rich tapestry of our community while enjoying some quality family time.”

Nestled in the expansive grounds of John Hunt Park, just across from the Jaycee Building, the park provides an open space for those kite-flying.

“John Hunt Park is a wonderful asset for Huntsville, and we are always excited to hold events like this that bring people together,” said James Gossett, director the City’s Parks & Recreation Department.
