HUNTSVILLE, Alabama — Residents at 305 8th Street, a group home for adults with special needs, got a big surprise on Tuesday.
The UAH Men's Hockey Team donated season tickets and jerseys to the residents.
Director of 305 8th Street, Andrea Williams, said, “We got a VIP invitation to surprise them on a safety outing where they can wear their masks, where there’s not any other visitors around, where they can get out of the house after being quarantine for so long.”
They got to sit in on the team's practice at the Von Braun Center on Tuesday.
The residents at 305 8th Street will be back on Friday to cheer on the Chargers against Michigan Tech.
UAH Men's Hockey Head Coach, Lance West, said, "It's great to have some of the community at the games, the environment and a good cause, and hopefully they can have some fun while they're here."
"This is something that they'll get to do as an activity throughout the COVID season that we didn't have an opportunity to do during the cold weather,” said Williams.
305 8th Street operates completely on community donations. Williams says they don’t have an activities budget, so donations are the only way the residents get opportunities like this in the community.
