DECATUR, Ala. — Get ready to strut your stuffing during the 9th annual Turkey Trot. Happening on November 23, in Decatur, 3M will host a family-friendly event that will feature a variety of races, including the 5k, the 5k CrossFit Challenge and the one-mile fun run. It all starts at 8 a.m. followed by the 9 a.m. fun run. Runners will start and finish at the Old State Bank Building. People who register before November 10 are guaranteed an event t-shirt. Registration prices will increase by $5 after that.
There are 17 locations throughout the course in the downtown district, where volunteers can cheer on and guide the runners through the route. Volunteers will meet at 7:15 a.m. If you want to volunteer, everyone must sign up online with their first and last name and contact information. There are two separate volunteer groups, so participants can choose the one that goes best with their schedule and preferences.
3M says they wanted to provide a community event that would benefit an agency. The decision was made to give the proceeds to United Way of Morgan County, their long-time community partner. Kathleen Ross, UWMC President and CEO says, “3M is a valuable community partner, and I can’t say enough about how good they are to United Way. And the ‘generations’ of 3M employees that have participated in Turkey Trots over the past nine years are very much a part of the United Way Family. Late nights, early mornings, freezing temperatures…we’ve been through it all together to make sure we have the resources we need to make Morgan County a better place to live and work.”
