DECATUR, Ala. — One of Alabama’s most popular events, the Alabama Jubilee Hot Air Balloon Classic, will take place this month.
Due to Alabama's social distancing requirements, the 43rd Alabama Jubilee Hot Air Balloon Classic will be a limited, one-day-only event on Saturday, May 23, 2020.
For one day only, local balloon pilots will launch from different locations throughout Decatur and Morgan County in a non-competitive flight at 6:30 a.m. If the weather is unsuitable, the events may take place on Sunday, May 24.
Later that day, at about 8:00 p.m., balloon pilots will inflate their balloons at different locations around Decatur and Morgan County and glow for viewing from a distance.
There will be no tether rides available. Spectators are asked to respect social distancing rules and not approach the balloons, crews, or pilots. All balloon events are subject to weather.
The biggest change to this year's festival’s will be the cancellation of the usual car, tractor and arts and crafts shows. No vendors will be available.
Discussions are underway for a possible second one-day event may take place later this summer. Check Alabama Jubilee web page and social media for event information and updates.
