Alabama Rally Against Injustice stops in Huntsville

More than one hundred people attended the rally to stand against racial inequality.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Folks from near and far rallied at Big Spring Park East to bring awareness to racial inequality.

More than a hundred people attended the 'Alabama Rally Against Injustice' event. Some people say they want to continue the momentum of bringing about change.

"Systemic racism has been a thing for a long time. And now it's to the point where it has to be known and it has to be brought down, so everybody's on the same page. And if we don't continue to do what we do than nobody will know," says Alabama Rally Against Injustice organizer Dijai 'DJ' Curry.

Curry traveled from Birmingham to stand for equality. Jourdain Johnson, 20, traveled from Florence.

"I'm here to provide energy, as the youth has done countless of times in the past," says Johnson.

He says he's here to learn more and help others. "My goal here is to gain knowledge and to spread awareness of the injustices that have been spread across this country against Black people, Black women, Black men, the LGBT community as well."

Emma Steelman and other volunteers, who are not affiliated with the organization, have registered about 50 people to vote since Thursday. They had a voter registration table set up at the rally.

She says she was disappointed with the protest from last Wednesday when people were tear-gassed by law enforcement. "People in charge, the authority figures I believe are not doing right by their citizens and so an important thing to keep everybody accountable is to register to vote and vote when it comes time."

Another 'Alabama Rally Against Injustice' event was held simultaneously in Jefferson County.
