MONTGOMERY, Ala. — A new report says Alabama's unemployment rate went up substantially in March, to 3.5 percent, and it's expected to go even higher.
This is an increase from the record low 2.7 percent in February.
While that's bad enough, April numbers may even be worse. The report says the drop doesn't include the full impact of the COVID-19 shutdown, since closings and layoffs happened after the numbers were totaled.
The drop reflects a loss of more than 24,000 jobs.
