If you or your teenager are looking to take a road test soon, you're out of luck.
In addition to suspending road tests, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) is modifying operations statewide of its Driver License Division due to the coronavirus, COVID-19, outbreak in the state.
The division has suspended all road testing, including CDL. They are discouraging anyone with a weakened or compromised immune system from visiting any driver license locations.
They are encouraging people to utilize ALEA's online services, especially for anyone who needs to renew or obtain a duplicate driver license/STAR ID or non-driver ID. You can find that information here. However, if you need a STAR ID and don't already have one, you'll still need to go to a driver license office with the necessary documents.
If you need to go to a driver license office, visit ALEA's website or contact your local driver license office to make sure that location is open. ALEA says information may change daily, so check often. You can find office phone numbers here.
If your Alabama license or non-driver ID has expired, there is a 60-day grace period following the expiration date, so you can wait a little while to renew.
Driver license offices have begun curbside check-ins and screenings. They ask you to please follow instructions posted outside each location and to wait at your vehicle to reduce potential exposure.
If you need your driver license reinstated, you can call your local/regional Reinstatement Office. You can also get your license reinstated via mail.
Here is a list of phone numbers for Reinstatement Offices:
