Give blood this December: Help save lives with the Red Cross

This holiday season, give blood to the Red Cross and get a chance to win a Super Bowl trip while helping those in need!
There will be blood donation drives set up in Huntsville throughout the weekend

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — As December wraps up, the American Red Cross is asking for your help to make a difference this holiday season. With just two weeks left in 2024, donors are encouraged to give blood or platelets to support patients in need.

Donors with type O negative blood and those who can give platelets are especially needed to ensure that hospitals can continue to provide vital care.

This time of year is busy for many, with holiday travel, seasonal illnesses, and winter weather leading to fewer donation appointments. To keep the blood supply stable, the Red Cross urges both regular donors and first-time givers to take just one hour this month to donate.

From December 16, 2024, to January 3, 2025, donors will receive an exclusive Red Cross long-sleeved T-shirt while supplies last.

Additionally, those who donate between January 1 and January 26, 2025, during National Blood Donor Month, will automatically be entered for a chance to win a trip for two to Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans.

To schedule an appointment and help keep the national blood supply strong, donors can use the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit here, or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).

Most donors must be at least 17 years old (or 16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds, and be in generally good health. Donors should bring a blood donor card, driver’s license, or two other forms of identification.

Get Involved as a Volunteer

If you're looking for another way to support the Red Cross's lifesaving mission, consider becoming a volunteer blood donor ambassador. These ambassadors help greet, check in, and thank blood donors, ensuring a positive experience for everyone.
