HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The annual application for the Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education (F.A.M.E) program opens this Fall, for the upcoming 2022 semester.
The program prepares students by giving them real-world workforce training. They can attend classes a few days a week, and work for major corporations.
Calhoun's Director of Career Services & Cooperative Learning, Kellie Morris explains, "Students who apply and are accepted into the program they go to work typically three days a week, and they come and attend class two days a week and that relationship continues for five consecutive semesters until the students graduate."
Students earn compensation for the hands-on work, as well as college credit. During the two years in training students can earn as much as $33,500.
"We encourage anyone to apply who's interested in that partnership," Morris said. "It's a really awesome collaboration and a lot of times students aren't looking for a traditional college experience."
Large companies in Huntsville like, Mazda Toyota, YKTA, Asahi Kasei, and Brown Precision, are all sponsoring students.
Morris hopes the application will be available sometime during the month of October.
After graduation students have more opportunities to advance within their sponsor company.
