Arrest made in the case of body found in Grant

A man is charged in Marshall County in the death of Sheri Jeanee Adkins, thanks to a tip from the public.

GRANT, Ala. — UPDATE: According to the Marshall County Sheriff's Office, Joshua Adkins, the estranged husband of Sheri Jeanee Adkins, has been arrested in connection with her disappearance. Adkins is charged with murder and his bond has been set at $300,000.

The body of a woman found in a wooded area of Grant has been identified as Sheri Jeanee Adkins.

According to the Marshall County Sheriff's Office, the Alabama Department of Forensic Science confirmed yesterday that 52-year-old Sheri Jeanee Adkins of Huntsville was the victim of a violent crime. 

Autopsy results confirm the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the back of the head.

According to the Sheriff's Office, deputies received a call on August 5 of a partially decomposed body found in a wooded area of the city. A property owner near the 1800 block of Columbus City Rd. discovered the body and notified law enforcement. 

Marshall County Investigators and the Marshall County Coroner’s Office were on the scene through the night. The body was later transported to the State Forensic Lab in Huntsville for an autopsy.
