UPDATE: Body found in Tennessee River identified

An arrest was made in the murder of David James McCluskey, 54 of Russellville.

MORGAN COUNTY, Ala. — A Somerville man is behind bars, charged with the murder of David James McCluskey, 54 of Russellville.

According to the Morgan County Sheriff's Office, on Thursday, July 23, 2020 Investigators arrested Bobby Daryl Hamblen, 59, of Somerville. Hamblen has been charged with murder.

Hamblen was arrested at is home and transported to and booked in the Morgan County Jail. Bond pending.

The sheriff's office reminds the public that arrests are public information. Any indication of an individual's arrest does not imply they have been convicted of a crime. All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

On Wednesday, July 22, 2020, an unidentified body with a gunshot wound was located on the banks of the Tennessee River at Bluff City Landing near Somerville, Alabama.

The Morgan County Sheriff's Office responded along with Morgan County Coroner Jeff Chunn and began an investigation. The body was removed and taken to State Forensics to determine the cause of death and attempt to identify the subject.

 Based on information from the scene and preliminary autopsy reports it is an active homicide investigation. 

The male subject has been identified as David James McCluskey, 54 of Russellville.

 The Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's assistance. Anyone with information about Mr. McCluskey or is whereabouts and movements prior to Wednesday, July 22, 2020 is asked to contact investigators at 256.260.5603 or 256.260.5325. You can also use our tiplink: http://bit.ly/2N3tluo

 The Morgan County Rescue Squad, Morgan County 911, Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, the Somerville Police Department, and Federal Fish and Wildlife Officers assisted with the call.

Morgan County deputies say the body was found near Bluff City Landing.
