Free internet service available for low-income students

Governor Kay Ivey is allocating $100 million in CARES Act funding to provide internet vouchers to students eligible for free and reduced school meals.

ALABAMA, USA — Students in Alabama will soon have access to free internet service.

Governor Kay Ivey is allocating $100 million in CARES Act funding to provide vouchers to students eligible for free and reduced school meals.

The program, called Alabama Broadband Connectivity (ABC) for Students, will help cover equipment and service costs for high-speed internet service from the fall through Dec. 31, 2020.

Low-income students will get a letter in the mail with more information toward the end of August.
